Special note on the business privilege license tax:

S.L. 2014-3/House Bill 1050 states that effective July 1, 2015, North Carolina local governments no longer have authority to levy the privilege license tax. Any new or existing business will no longer be required to obtain or renew a privilege license.

Key points of the privilege license tax legislation:

Elimination of this tax was enacted by the NC Legislature on May 29, 2014.

The City of Concord Finance Department will no longer be maintaining any business-related information in a database that was previously collected through the licensing process; this includes a list of new businesses.

Businesses which hold North Carolina ABC Commission permits must still apply for the City of Concord Beer/Wine Permit with the Tax Department.  Beer/Wine License year is May 1 to April 30.

Prior year Privilege License taxes were not repealed and remain payable. Payments can be made by mail: PO Box 308 Concord, NC 28026. Please contact our office with questions regarding this important tax change at (704) 920-5234.

Even though a privilege license will no longer be necessary after July 1, the Concord Development Ordinance (CDO) requires that a certificate of compliance must be obtained before a business can occupy a commercial space.
