Concord 101 is an educational experience for citizens of Concord. You'll enjoy learning more about your local government and the services it provides. We hope to help members of the community better understand how these services work for them.
Additionally, members will be encouraged to take an active role in their neighborhood and city. You will learn how you can play a part in local government. The relaxed setting will make learning about our city fun and exciting!
Curious as to how the name "Harmony" came about? Ever wonder just how many water lines supply Concord? Want to learn more about our Council-Manager form of government? If so, this course is for you!
Classes are interactive with opportunities to ask questions and provide feedback.
Students will tour city facilities, view equipment used by various departments, and get a first hand look at what it takes to run city services such as transportation, electric, water, police, fire, parks and recreation, and much more.
In addition, community partners will be on board to give a behind-the-scenes look at what makes Concord one of the best places to live, work, and play.
The class will meet every Tuesday beginning in mid-August and end with a graduation ceremony in late November. Class will take place from 6:15 to 8:30 p.m. each week; an additional afternoon class from 2:00 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. may be offered, depending on demand.
To complete the course, participants must attend at least 12 classes, and at least one City Council meeting during the course.
Concord 101 is offered each fall. The course is free to residents of Concord who are at least 18 years of age. The class meets for 14 consecutive weeks.
